PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC APPROACHES
AND TECHNIQUES I USE
COGNITIVE-BEHAVIORAL
The Cognitive-Behavioral Approach is based on how thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes influence feelings and actions. With this approach, healthier behavior is learned and personal balance and growth is achieved.PSYCHODYNAMICThe Psychodynamic Approach is used to discover and process emotional issues, explore the impact the family of origin has had on current patterns of interpersonal relationships and understand one’s self better in order to heal unresolved emotions. As part of this process, I will help you apply your new insights to improve your life.METAPHOR THERAPY
Metaphor Therapy is used to identify and explore a client-generated metaphor in order to better understand the belief system that is reflected in the client’s metaphoric speech and early memory metaphors. Through collaboration with the therapist, it is the goal to access and employ the client’s insight to stimulate growth and change.

PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL
The Psychoeducational Approach is used to provide facts and facilitate the application of knowledge to prevent unhealthy behavior or significantly reduce symptoms. It can also be helpful for family and friends of someone who is suffering from a mental or emotional illness in order to better understand and cope with that person’s behavior.

EXISTENTIAL THERAPY
Existential Therapy is based on existential philosophy and deals with the universal issues people struggle with such as fear of death, purpose of life and spirituality. It can also be used to deal with a present conflict within a person and to teach tolerance of stress as well as empowerment. It can demystify some of the assumptions people have about themselves and their social environment and allow for more acceptance of current circumstances, paradoxically considered a prerequisite for any type of change.
